Why SureBolt?

Measures tension not torque,

Patented whole echo method,

Graphs tension changes in real-time,

Instrument is built into the PC,

  13.3" Color TOUCHSCREEN
ToughBook Open & Closed

Friction varies too much, bolt to bolt,

Not fooled by friction variations,

Using lubrication still leaves large friction variations,

Avoid flange leaks,

SureBolt

Prove to safety you took a reliable tension reading,

Far greater reliability,

All other bolt gages are one-point bolt gages,

No more zero-crossing peak jumping,

ALL other bolt gages have problems with peak jumping,

Dramatic improvement due to a new patented DSP technique,

Proven by NASA,

Can record over a million bolt tensions with their waveforms,

Playback built in,

Excel compatible data files,

Flange bolts easily grouped together,

Critical bolts,

Verify your design,

Safety,

Tension verification,

Accuracy,

Much easier to use,

Graphical help,

On-line help,

Dynamic help,

13" Color Screen instead of 5" black & white screen,

Full keyboard instead of a few cryptic keys,

Record field notes with your tension data,

You can use long file names,

Large on-screen buttons,

Familiar WinXP/2000 operating system,

Full featured laptop - Panasonic Toughbook Model 72 computer,

1 year limited warrantee,

No need to transfer data to another machine,

No hidden information,

To sum it up, vastly easier and more reliable.

46+ feature enhancements (new features, and bug fixes).
Custom dual channel prototype developed for NASA.
Custom ultrasonic probes, with built in digital temperature probes, for NASA.

Spring, 2001
NASA schedules SureBolt to tension its X-33 hold down bolts. NASA needs between 132,000 and 140,000 lbs tension in each hold down bolt. Even with a "super" washer (multiple bolts pushing on a plate), different patterns, and every trick possible, lab tests showed that the tension to torque relationship gave far too much error. SureBolt tracked these errors. The X-33 is NASA's new prototype launch vehicle.

Tutorial available on this web site. Users may now see two typical applications and the actual screens.

July 15th, 2001
SureBolt is designed to fit inside a Panasonic Toughbook Model 72. Much more rugged. SureBolt's standard configuration now includes the Toughbook model 72.

May 2002
13.3" Touchscreen with software changes to take advantage of touch capabilities. SureBolt version 1.1.3 released. 20+ improvements.

May-July 2002
SureBolt used on previously unheard of bolts. 24 foot long bolts usually give such a weak signal that the only way to use ultrasonics reliably is to use a very long XDCR cable and the pitch catch method (and even this still has a weak signal). SureBolt worked easily, even on these impossible bolts, without any special long cables and without using a more expensive pitch catch method.

May-July 2002
5 minute and 10 minute video tutorials online and built into SureBolt.
10+ feature enhancements.

Oct-Nov 2002
SureBolt version 1.1.4 released. 10+ improvements.

Oct-Nov 2003
Version 1.1.5. New features and enhancements.

Oct-Nov 2004
Version 2.0.0 released. Histograms of the last tension recoded for multiple bolts with one of the bolt tensions being live. In one graph you can see the last tension reading on all your flange bolts, and the bolts do not have to have the same length, diameter, or grip lengths. You can set target tension RANGES for each bolt. And much more (30+ feature enhancements).

Apr-Jun 2005
Version 2.0.1 released. More feature enhancements.
